The Lark Traditional Arts (LTA) board of directors can no longer delay making a decision about holding Lark Camp 2020. The Mendocino Woodlands announced its closure through the open-ended shelter-in-place order, and recently Governor Newsom has announced that mass gatherings are unlikely to be permitted over the summer. We know that even if we were able to hold camp, many folks – including instructors – would justifiably feel uncomfortable about coming. People will still be getting sick and some will come to camp not knowing they are asymptomatic carriers, there is a lack of medical infrastructure in Mendocino/Fort Bragg, and we can’t visualize socially distancing during workshops, or curtailing the evening dance events that we love. Frankly, we can’t imagine coming to camp and not being able to hug each other.
And so, with heavy hearts, we are cancelling Lark Camp 2020.
Due to our cancellation:
- LTA will refund all camper fees paid for Lark Camp 2020. To get your refund, or to make a tax deductible donation of all or a portion of your fees, please fill out this form Lark Camp Refund/Donation Form. We will refund your money by check – even if you paid by credit card.
- We ask you to be patient – it may take us a few weeks to get your money back to you. If you are registered to work on a crew you will hear from your crew managers directly.
We are incredibly disappointed, and know you are too. Each time Lark Camp is over, we begin dreaming of the next one. This is an unprecedented time, and we need to take care of our people.
We want to assure you that THERE WILL BE LARK CAMP IN 2021. Please add July 30 – August 7 to your calendar.
WE ARE CREATING A VIRTUAL CABARET! You’ll see performances by Lark instructors and campers and be able to interact with the community during the show! If you are interested in performing in the Cabaret, use this form to let us know.
Also, in the next few weeks, we hope to have news for you about which of our instructors are able to offer online instruction. Please keep watch for the newsletter. If you aren’t already on the mailing list, sign up for it here: https://www.larkcamp.org/#newsletter.
We’ll miss you! We hope you will remain healthy, and we really hope you’ll register to come next year.
Sincerely, the Lark Traditional Arts Board:
Will Wheeler, Celia Ramsay, Meghan Miller, Danese Cooper, Susan Walsh, & Danny Carnahan
As we continue to shelter-in-place, please visit your pals at Lark Camp by posting on the Facebook group page. Many of our instructors have lost income, and you can support them by looking for their on-line concerts, ask for virtual lessons, and make purchases of their music books and CDs.
