Amelia Hogan sings in the often highly ornamented Irish music traditions of Sean-Nós or “old style”, ballads, and contemporary” folk songs. She is an American of Irish and Scottish heritage who’s been steeped in the old style tradition of Sean Nós for over four decades both in Ireland and the US. Amelia deepened her formative connections to friends and singers who are well-known greats such as Peggy Seeger, John Roberts, Ewan McColl, Pete Seeger, Utah Phillips, Niamh Parsons, Christy Moore, Dick Holdstock, Louisa Killen, Cathy Jordan, Rita Gallagher, Archie Fisher, Eliza Carthy, June Tabor, Bill Coulter, and more.
Amelia has been invited to perform and teach for the Irish Consulate in San Francisco, The Traditional Music School in Barcelona, the Irish American Crossroads Festival – Bay Area, the Góilín Singers’ Club, and Liberty Hall in Dublin, Ireland. She has spent over 40 years of learning from and collaborating with song tradition greats in Irish (As Gaeilge) and in English.
Hogan’s recent recording project, Taking Flight, launched as a top ten global folk Albums, (and artist), and topped the charts of folk albums globally in 2023.
Amelia enjoys and can be bribed with excellent tea, fine cheese, well-crafted occasional confectionery and pastry, flowers, paisley scarves, a good song or story, and (especially) effective bug-repellant.
