Middle Eastern Improvisation For All Instruments

Improvisation is a key aspect of Middle Eastern music, from the Balkans all across the Middle East. Briana will teach the basic components of improvising in various styles and maqams (modes), as well as teaching a few tunes that can be used as the vehicle for the improvisation, or taksim. The class will have the opportunity to apply and practice what they are learning a few times during the week in collaboration with Natalie Nayun’s belly dance students.
