For guitar players with some familiarity with Irish DADGAD tuning (or advanced Irish backers who play in other tunings), this workshop goes into depth on chord shapes and choices, playing in different keys and positions (with and without a capo), chord substitutions, bass run ideas, and a range of right-hand styles and patterns. We’ll cover all tune types (reels, jigs, hornpipes, polkas, slip jigs, slides, etc.), with help from a melody player at each class. We may also cover flatpicking and ornamenting traditional Irish tunes, fingerstyle ideas, and song and air accompaniment. Like the beginner class, we’ll make sure to never lose sight of the most important aspect of Irish accompaniment: how to listen to the tunes, develop chordal accompaniment by ear, and support the melody player. (Bring a capo and flatpick.)
