Learn how to strike the drum painlessly, techniques for producing many of the almost infinite sound possibilities, how to practice and play, basic Arabic rhythms and “odd” metered rhythms (Balkan and Turkish), and how to play with concept. While playing darbuka is more difficult than doing brain surgery, it’s not much more difficult.
The morning class is primarily for beginners, the afternoon session is primarily for intermediate and advanced levels. If you want to learn, but can’t make the morning class, feel free to join the afternoon class. Depending on how the classes advance, we may perform musical pieces on the second Middle Eastern Night at Camp 3.
