English Longsword Dance, Beginning
Like other “linked dancer” traditions around the world, English Longsword Dancing is tied to the Death and Resurrection cycles of Spring and Harvest. In this fun and dynamic dance, the geometric patterns are punctuated by the “weaving” of the swords, and the changing shapes are meant to bring good luck to the crops and entire village. During the workshops participants will learn figures that make up a complete dance, along with words about the connected folklore.
The Bruno style of folk dance can be lively and energetic! A sound or braced body is highly recommended!
