Washtub Jerry taught himself to play both the ukulele (his first adult instrument) and piano. By the time he bought a ukulele, he had spent many hours on piano discovering the relationships of the 1 chord, 4 chord, 5 chord, 2 chord, and 6 chord. Jerry was not fond of the typical beginner’s open-string chords, so he wrote his own ukulele course Neck Anywhere in 1963. Jerry later began playing the washtub bass, and performed a number of years as a chording pianist. He has taught for many years at Lark Camp.
