California native James Hendricks started his formal music training at age nine in New Orleans with the tenor sax. He later moved on to piano, guitar, English concertina, wind instruments, and horns. For ten years he was on staff at the Renaissance Pleasure Faire where he directed the queen’s musicians, and wrote and produced plays. James specializes in folk songs, early American songs, and songs of the sea. He has taught at Lark and currently performs with The Band of the California Battalion, The Briton Ensemble, and his newest effort, Quartermaster, a small men’s vocal group specializing in sea songs.
