Craig Kurumada

Craig has been playing Thracian, Macedonian and Rhodope gaida for thirty years. He has performed with the Živio Ethnic Arts Ensemble of Salt Lake City and is co-founder of the Arcata, California band, “Chubritza”. He counts among his teachers Mark Levy, George Chittenden, Georgi Doichev, and the late, great Vassil Bebelekov. As part of his honoring Vassil’s memory, his mission is to get good, functioning gaidi into the hands of those who want to learn. He lives in Arcata with his wife, Linnea Mandell, where they teach their community international vocal and instrumental music and how to build ensembles.
