Learn guaracha, guajira, bolero, and son – the folk roots of Salsa, but not Salsa! It is folksy Cuban stringband music, different from big-band salsa music. Singing is a big component both in the song sections and the repeated coro section, as is small percussion (clave, guiro, and maracas).
All instruments are welcome as we work in this music; the traditional Cuban son band would usually be made up of Cuban Tres, Laud, Guitar, or Cuban Cuatro as lead instrument(s), rhythm guitar, bass, bongo, and small percussion. Quite often the bands will include a trumpet, violin, or clarinet. All players are invited to sing.
