Indian Rhythm Theory for All Instruments & Styles

Together we will learn the basics of North and South Indian rhythm theory, calculation, and techniques. Reciting phrases while clapping the beats for various rhythmic cycles will give students insight into the way the music can be interpreted and appreciated as well as practiced and performed. Each class will also dedicate time to learn how create polyrhythms and rhythmic phrases in sub-divisions of 2, 3, 4, 5, & 7 and occasionally employ elements of the rhythmic languages of Balinese interlocking technique, body percussion, and improvisational singing. This class will provide powerful tools and training for rhythmic improvisation for musicians of any level and genre.
