This workshop is for rank beginners with little or no prior experience on the fiddle or violin. We will quickly move through the basics of tuning and finding the notes on the finger board as well as a few basic bowing patterns found in the repertoire of every old-time fiddler. The primary emphasis is on learning tunes, and the participants in the class can expect to learn a half-dozen tunes or more by the week’s end. The class will also explore simple old-time bowing patterns which provide drive to the music.
Jim and Amber Mueller will co-teach the class, so it is possible to split the group into two different levels, depending on the needs of the class. All that a student needs is a fiddle and a bow, and a positive fun attitude! The tunes will be taught by ear, so a recording device will be very helpful. However, written music is available for those who are paper-trained.
